Hiking adventures! at Gwynn Falls/ Leakin Park

Last sunday I joined a couple friends to do some 'urban' hiking (in a park)!

We then happened upon this awesome huge sundial:

with an old swing set in the background

A picnic area:

... but where are the benches?!

but never fear! we found an old amphitheater!

We sat down to eat a tasty ... but leaky (i found out the hard way) ... lunch

Erica and Darren learned from my example

There was also an awesome old wooden climbing thing with a fire pole!

So what was this awesome place?! luckily the handy trail guide/map provided an answer:
"The Jastrow Levin Picnic Grove: (formerly the Old Girl Scout Camp), was in active use by the Girl Scouts until the early 1960s and still features a fire side amphitheater. The restoration in the 1980s led to the dedication of the site and a trail to Jastrow Levin, a Fairmount resident, high school teacher and trail advocate. Nearby a sundial has been rediscovered."
neat!
